
UNDERSTANDING THE SERVICEMEMBERS CIVIL RELIEF ACT
Enacted in 2003, the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) is a federal law that provides specific benefits and protections to eligible service members created to ease financial burdens on these individuals during periods of active service. Some SCRA protections or benefits may also apply to spouses and dependents.
What SCRA protections are offered to eligible accounts?
- A maximum interest rate of 6% on eligible finance accounts
- Protection from repossession of collateral for preservice contracts, unless a court order or written waiver is obtained
- The option to terminate a motor vehicle lease without paying certain early termination liability amounts
What are the eligibility requirements?
If you are an active-duty military servicemember, have received active-duty orders or are the spouse or dependent of a person called to active duty, please contact us to discuss which necessary documents we need to determine your eligibility.
Along with your account number, please send ONE of the following to the Cadillac Financial mailing address, fax number or email address below:
- A copy of your official military orders
- A letter from your commanding officer on military letterhead
- Any form of official notification of military service

Frequently asked questions for those applying for SCRA benefits
If you would like to apply for SCRA benefits, you will need to send in a copy of your military orders, a letter from your commanding officer on military letterhead or any form of official notification of military service. This information can be faxed, emailed or mailed. After reviewing your submission, we will let you know if we need anything else before deciding whether your account is eligible for SCRA benefits.
You may send your orders to us by email, standard mail or fax. Once your orders have been received, we will review your accounts for SCRA protection.

We review each active account individually to determine eligibility for SCRA protection. There may be different benefits available for different account types. Our Military Customer Support team will help you identify the available benefits for each account.
SCRA is only for active-duty military customers, but if you’re a veteran and called to active duty, you may be eligible for SCRA protections.

After proper documentation has been received and SCRA eligibility has been determined, a member of our Military Customer Support team will call you to discuss next steps. You’ll also receive a letter in the mail to the address we have for you on file.
Frequently asked questions for individuals with SCRA protections
Yes, your monthly payment is still required when the rate is reduced to 6%.
No, the SCRA allows eligible service members to cancel or terminate your lease without paying certain early termination charges or penalties. However, you may still be responsible for some end-of-lease obligations, such as past-due payments up to the date of termination, taxes, excess mileage and/or excess wear related to your vehicle(s).
Once your lease is approved for SCRA early termination, we will outline your next steps. Your originating dealership is the best place to turn in your vehicle when terminating your lease. If you have relocated a significant distance, please reach out to your local participating Cadillac dealership to ensure they are available to accept the vehicle for return.
